Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Appear Headed for Divorce
May 26, 2016
Johnny Depp, the Hollywood superstar who has earned both critical and popular acclaim over the years, is about to go through the divorce process for a second time. Depp’s current wife, Amber Heard, recently filed documents in a Los Angeles court and said that the divorce is necessitated by irreconcilable differences.
When 52-year-old Depp tied the knot with 30-year-old Heard in February 2015, news of their marriage generated a great deal of media coverage.
Although Heard is a highly paid actress who generates a sizable income, she has asked the court to grant her alimony in the divorce case. Meanwhile, Depp is fighting back against the request by asking the Los Angeles Superior Court judge to deny Heard’s claim for spousal support.
The divorce comes at a particularly bad time for Depp, who recently lost his mother. In fact, Heard filed for divorce just three days after Depp’s mother died.
Depp is also expected to be in the media eye in the next few weeks as he promotes his upcoming film, “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” a sequel to a previous blockbuster he starred in.
Interestingly, Depp and Heard were recently in the news for another issue: they faced criminal charges in Australia after illegally smuggling their dogs into the foreign country while working on a film. The Australian government came down hard on the married couple, requiring them to videotape an apology for falsifying documents and concealing their dogs when arriving in the country. The apology drew criticism from media outlets and reporters because of the flat delivery of the two highly regarded actors. In exchange for Depp and Heart providing the recorded apology, Australia’s deputy prime minister agreed to drop the criminal charges against Heard.
