Comedian Jay Mohr Reportedly Files for Divorce from Actress Nikki Cox
July 26, 2016
Late last week, reports started to circulate that comedian and Hollywood actor Jay Mohr had filed for divorce from Nikki Cox. However, the media is now reporting that Mohr and his wife of nine years may be attempting to work things out and avoid divorce proceedings.
Mohr and Cox, who is also an actor, met while working together on the set of “Las Vegas,” a popular TV series that aired on NBC for several years. The Hollywood power couple was engaged a short time later and then got married on December 29, 2006. Two years later, Mohr filed a petition with a Los Angeles court to have his wife’s name added to his legal name – a major step for a celebrity and entertainer whose career can be affected by any kind of name change.
Jay Mohr is 45 years old, while Nikki Cox is 38 years old. They have a five-year-old son, meaning that there could potentially be child custody and child support issues if the divorce ends up being finalized. In fact, Mohr’s divorce filing reportedly requests sole custody of the couple’s child because Cox allegedly “has a serious, ongoing drug issue which has compromised her ability to care for” their son.
Any issues of spousal support could be easier to resolve because the couple reportedly had a prenuptial agreement in place, with both Mohr and Cox signing the prenup before tying the knot.
In his petition for divorce, Mohr reportedly cited irreconcilable differences as the main reason for the divorce.
Although the divorce petition was reportedly filed with a Los Angeles family court, Mohr has now reached out to the media and said that he and Cox “are very married, very in love and that’s really all there is.” Mohr also took to social media and posted a video on Twitter that shows the still-married couple walking together and holding their son’s hand.
