Baseball Superstar Cal Ripken Gets Divorced from Wife after 36 years of Marriage

Hall of Fame baseball player Cal Ripken has officially gotten divorced from his wife after nearly 36 years of being married. The divorce announcement has come as a shock to many because the Ripkens were perceived as “a wholesome, low-drama couple.” However, the reality is that divorce can happen to any couple.

When Ripken, who is now 55 years old, played baseball for the Baltimore Orioles in the 1980s and 1990s, he was known as baseball’s “Iron Man” because he set an all-time record for consecutive games played by playing in 2,131 straight games. This reputation has resulted in some audacious headlines for online articles reporting the news about Ripken’s divorce from Kelly, his ex-wife. For example, TMZ.com ran a headline reading, “Cal Ripken’s Marriage Steak Is Over.”

The divorce between Cal Ripken and his former spouse, Kelly, was handled quickly by the parties. The couple’s split was announced only after the divorce was finalized in a Baltimore County court. The Ripkens had reportedly been legally separated for some time already.

The terms of the high-profile divorce are not expected to be disclosed because the parties reached an amicable settlement with respect to division of property. The terms of the settlement were included in a private contract.
